Introduction Video
Years 1-2 Lesson Plan & Activity
  • Students understand that some information about themselves is special because it makes them unique.
  • Students know that they should never give out their personal details online without a parent or teacher’s permission. 
Follow the Digital Trail (Video for discussion)
Introduce students to:
  • The importance of building a positive online personal profile.
  • The concept of a traceable digital footprint.
Years 3-4 Lesson Plan & Activity
  • Students learn to recognise what forms ‘personal information’ can take.
  • Students learn that a person can be identified by knowing only a few pieces of information about them, and must therefore be careful about what information they provide online. ​
Digital Footprints (Video for discussion)
Students recognise:
  • The importance of building a positive online personal profile.
  • The concept of a traceable digital footprint.
Years 5-6 Lesson Plan & Activity
  • Students are able to describe what personal information may consist of.
  • Students gain an appreciation of how their personal information is collected by websites and what it may be used for. ​

  • Students continue to learn the ida of building a positive online profile.
  • Students are taught/reminded of appropriate strategies for sharing information about themselves online and to the concept that their footprint can be traced.

  • Students understand that they should seek advice before entering their details online or providing it to people offline. 
  • Students understand that not everyone they meet is automatically trustworthy.
  • Students begin to identify the characteristics of people that are worthy of their trust and who can help them make positive choices to keep them safe.

  • Students understand that not everyone or everything they come across online is trustworthy.
  • Students begin to learn some of the ways they can judge the veracity of a website that is asking them to divulge their personal information.

  • Student is introduced to age appropriate online communication formats and is guided to communication effectively.
  • Student is introduced to the idea of an audience and how to best address it.
  • Student is guided toward the process of respectful collaboration using complementary tools.
  • Student is introduced to age-appropriate social media as a means of communication, collaboration and content sharing.
Years 3-6: Netiquette
  • Student is able to communicate effectively online through a variety of formats independently (e.g. email, texting, online forums, Skype, instant message, blogs)
  • Students demonstrates an understanding of audience and how to best address them
  • Student, collaborates respectfully and independently using complimentary tools
  • Student uses age appropriate social media as a means for communication, collaboration and content sharing.
